Act Now – Don’t Lose Access To Your ChatGPT Prompts

Do it now
Find out how to back-up those awesome ChatGPT prompts you've crafted before it's too late. You can do it now and it's easier than you think.

ChatGPT Prompts You’ve Created

So, you’ve been using ChatGPT since it’s official launch in 2022. To your delight the worlds best LLM has given you answers to questions you previously didn’t have answers for, has generated articles and posts for your blog, helped you fixed a bunch of broken code and has generated a number of legal documents for your clients just in the nick of time. All the while you’ve become a bit of an expert at writing ChatGPT prompts and you didn’t even have to take Google’s Free Prompt Engineering course. Now, you have tonnes of expertly crafted, reusable prompts in your prompt history which you hope will remain there forever.

Major LLM providers like ChatGPT may have the size and resources to hold massive amounts of user prompt history for a long time but there will always be max limits and as time goes by the growth will be so exponential that they’ll have to “drop” some history or force you to delete some on your own. We’ve seen the error ” Due to high demand on our systems, previous conversations are temporarily unavailable” a few times so we sort of know it’s inevitable. I still remember logging into my Evernote account a few years back and not being able to create new notes because of a new limit of 50 that was imposed on free-tier users – I think I have over two hundred notes. It’s just speculation but the same thing could happen within our free AI accounts.

For that very reason I searched for a way to backup all my prompts. As the geek that I am I first looked to see if I could use ChatGPT’ API to automate backing up of my prompts but I came across a way simpler solution.

Use Data Controls Under Settings

It’s a manual process but a fairly simple one to be honest. Follow the below steps and you’ll be able to export your data (including your prompts) whenever you want.

  1. Login to your ChatGPT account at https://chat.openai.com/
  2. Click on your user icon in the top right of the screen and a menu should pop-up.
  3. Under the menu click on “Settings”.
  4. On the “Settings” popup, click on the “Data Controls” option.
  5. Look for “Export data” in the list and to the right of that, click on “Export”.

This will send off a request to generate an export of all your data including the prompts you have created. You will be notified by email once the export is complete and then you will be able to download it.
